Podkoren is a village older than Kranjska Gora, hiding wonderful stories from the times when there was no tourism in the Zgornjesavska Valley. A medieval cobbled road led through the village, which served as a link between Kranj and Carinthia as early as the 15th century. As early as the Austro-Hungarian period, a post carriage passed through Korensko sedlo, bringing the inhabitants news from distant places. Until 1990, when the Karavanke Tunnel was built, the road through Korensko sedlo was the main transport link to central and northern Europe.
On the northern slopes of the Vitranec there are ski resorts with ski lifts. There is a ski slope on which a World Cup competition is held every year.

Podkoren can also be crazy fun, as it hosts the Meeting of the Parklands of the Three Lands, one of the most famous Upper Sava revels.
