Since 1967 and the merger of the 3 former communes of Saint-Servan, Paramé and Saint-Malo, Greater Saint-Malo has become a city of almost 50,000 inhabitants. Even today, you'll still find people who claim to be Servannais or Paraméanais before Malouin!
The historic centre, commonly referred to as 'Intra-Muros', is the most corsair-like of the Malouin districts; enclosed within their ramparts, the many inhabitants, shipowners, sailors and craftsmen, all turned towards the sea. A nerve centre from which ships sailed for the Indies, the New World and the European trading posts, Saint-Malo is home to the grand mansions of shipowners, which today bear witness to a glorious past.
Boating is a universal pastime: from an early age, children can take to the water for the first time, and then cultivate an immoderate taste for the open sea, the breeze, the sea... What about freshwater? Head for the waterways, on the canal and in the Rance valley, in a canoe or dory. In all its forms, the pleasure of water bewitches...

190 km of GR® footpaths, 970 km of waymarked footpaths, 670 km of mountain bike trails, 400 km of Vélo Promenades® cycle routes... Coastal paths accessible only on foot, side roads, secret back roads, a towpath... The Destination Saint-Malo Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel area has so many trails and paths to explore.
