Soboth Reservoir Water Experience
Between 1988 and 1993, KELAG constructed the “Koralpe” power station in the Carinthia-Slovenia-Styria border region. One of the most important parts of the facility is the Soboth reservoir, which in summer, on fine days, attracts thousands of visitors as a picturesque, fjord-like mountain lake. The lake has a surface area of 80 hectares, is 3 km long and holds 22 million m³ of water. Its maximum depth is around 80 m. The nature conservation requirement that the reservoir must be full, with a water level fluctuation of no more than one metre, from 15 June to 31 October forms the basis for the tourist use of this reservoir.
