This hike takes you to the oldest preserved wooden church in Austria – through shady forest, past blueberry bushes, and with wide views over the Salzburg region. Ideal for hot days, pleasant to walk, and without difficult technical demands.
Start is at the Gasthaus Zur Einkehr Wasenmoos. You first follow the road you came on back for about 500 meters before turning left into Kolomansstraße. After another 300 meters, turn left again and now hike up the Thalgauberg. After about 2 kilometers you reach the forest edge – from here a shady forest path leads you through the quiet nature. About 600 meters later, a marked forest path branches left towards Kolomanskirche. Especially in summer, it’s worth a close look here: wild blueberries grow along the path, offering a small culinary highlight at the roadside.
The path finally leads back to a road, which you follow to the right uphill to Kolomanskirche. The church lies at 1,114 m and was built in 1658. It is dedicated to Saint Koloman, an Irish prince who traveled on a pilgrimage through the country and rested at the present Kolomansberg. The atmosphere around the small church is special: quiet, rich in history – and with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. At the Gasthaus zur Einkehr Wasenmoos you can refuel wonderfully with regional delicacies.
