From Klagenfurt/Graz - A2 South Motorway - exit Wolfsberg North - direction St. Margarethen. Turn right along the Weißenbacher state road to the end of St. Margarethen (approx. 3.5 km). Turn left following the signs (Forst 4 km). From Forst continue north towards Saualpe-Kleinhinterberger Hut (approx. 5 km).

If you want to do a longer circular hike from the Kleinhinterberger Hut, you must take the Kleinhinterberger round 1 (from Forstalpe continuing over the Kienberg-Iron Cross-Gertrusk past the Meeraugen to the Ladinger Hut. On the way back to the Kleinhinterberger Hut it goes via a forest road through a beautiful mountain forest (length approx. 20 km).
